Hesketh Racing History & Team Record

A young British Lord and racing enthusiast, Alexander Hesketh decided to start his own team in 1973. He enlisted many up and coming people, including designer Harvey Postlethwaite and future World Champion James Hunt. At the time however, Hunt was in the process of acquiring the nickname "Hunt The Shunt" and his finishes were few and far between. The team found a small degree of success in 1975, winning the Dutch GP, but the financial strain was too much for Hesketh and at the end of the '75 season he disbanded the team. Most of the personnel, including Postlethwaite (and much of the equipment) transferred to the fledgling team of Frank Williams and sponsor Walter Wolf. The talent of James Hunt was recognized by McLaren, with whom he one the World Championship in 1976. Lord Alexander Hesketh remained active in many areas of motorsports and is the President of the British Racing Drivers Club.
