History & Team Record
Successful wheel manufacturer Fondmetal, under the direction of founder and racing enthusiast Gabriele Rumi, began sponsoring Italian driver Piercarlo Ghinzani in 1983 and went on to supply wheels for several F1 teams. In 1989 they became Ghinzani's Osella team title sponsor and Rumi bought a share of the cash strapped team the following year. With Enzo Osella's interest in F1 waning, Rumi bought out the Italian at the end of the 1990 season and moved the operation to his headquarters 100 miles east in Bergamo.
